Lucas was born in southern Brasil. At an early age he was orphaned, and went to live with his uncle on the family ranch, becoming a young Gaucho, often riding out on the open range. Later he went to university on a full academic scholarship at University Rio Grande de Sol. After graduating in 1962, he had options in Brasil, Japan and elsewhere. He chose to make the United States his home. He has had a full career working at different US companies including SI Systems Handling, Sybron, Brainerd and Liberty Hardware, developing numerous successful patents and technical products.
